GENERAL

You need an environmental vignette for almost every German city. Cities such as Aachen, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne have all established an Umweltzone in which the vignette is mandatory. If in doubt, take a look at this page.
For not having a vignette, you will receive a fine of €80. Inspections have intensified in recent years, and foreign cars are also being fined.
We determine which environmental sticker you need based on your registration certificate. Most cars will receive a green sticker. The following guideline provides some indication:
The sticker is linked to your license plate, so its validity is unlimited. However, if the sticker is no longer legible, you will have to buy a new one.
If you stay outside the environmental zones, you do not need an environmental sticker. If you enter these zones with a car, you will always need an environmental sticker. The following vehicles do not require a sticker:
The purpose of the environmental sticker is to improve the air quality in the centre of German cities. The stickers can be used to prevent certain types of polluting cars from entering the city.
